Job Description

The Geek Squad Protection (GSP) actuarial function provides critical analytics and cost management on our warranty reserve portfolios and the related annual written premium. This role is critical to drive costs out of the GSP and Membership warranty models, to enable new innovative product offerings and solutions which drive higher sales and longer-term customer relationships, and to serve as Best Buy's subject matter expert in the business and industry drivers impacting the underwriting and actuarial results within our warranty service contracts business.

This role is highly cross-functional and is a key strategic player in managing the relationship with our 3rd party warranty obligor and underwriter, along with our internal reserve and management, and is expected to achieve strategic and financial outcomes that are mutually acceptable and agreeable between the parties. In this role, you will gain insights into how we approach many challenges associated with being one of the nation's leading retailers. This internship also will give you the opportunity to develop industry-related skills in a professional environment, network with Best Buy employees and explore a wide variety of career paths.

This internship will be available from June to August 2026. This role is remote eligible, allowing you to work virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. For the duration of the internship, you are required to live and work in the United States. If you are local to our corporate campus, you will be asked to come into the office 3 days per week.

What you'll do

Work closely with the department's Actuaries to develop and maintain actuarial models
Develop basic underwriting and actuarial skills as you build your knowledge of the Services Warranty business
Identify opportunities for process improvements
Perform root cause analysis
Financial reporting and analysis

Basic Qualifications

Must be pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, graduating between fall 2026-- and spring 2029
Must be able to work 40 hours a week Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5pm Central Time Zone
Must be able to commit to the internship start and end date of 6/1/2026- 8/7/2026
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc., will not be considered)

Preferred Qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
Pursuing Actuarial Exams
Computer programming experience (SQL, VBA, other object-oriented languages)
Experience with rate making or P&C actuarial concepts is a plus.
A strong mathematical understanding combined with analytical and modeling skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
Proficiency in Excel
