Nautilus is seeking a Lead Reserving Actuary to join their team! This role will be located in our Scottsdale office on a hybrid basis.

 

The Lead Reserving Actuary will be responsible for preparing and overseeing the quarterly actuarial reserving process working closely with the Chief Actuary.  In this role, collaboration, communication and strong technical skills are critical to ensure a comprehensive reserve analysis.

  • Lead processes for the department such as Reserving Analyses, Modeling, Budget etc.
  • Perform advanced actuarial analysis, inclusive of advanced analytics and modeling, resulting in suggestions for actions
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims and pricing actuaries to ensure that reserve analysis reflects all relevant and applicable information
  • Build relationships with senior management with the goal of becoming a trusted advisor
  • Lead projects to refine key assumptions utilized in the reserve analysis process
  • Manage priorities to meet mandated deadlines and keep discretionary projects moving with a sense of urgency
  • Support the monthly and quarter financial close with reporting requirements
  • Develop and implement enhancements to improve efficiency and accuracy on reserve analyses and routine processes.
  • Work with Claims to communicate trends and patterns in key claim metrics – case reserving, closing ratios, etc.
  • In all aspects, share the results of actuarial analyses with non-actuarial peers and executives through effective verbal and written communication and effective exhibits
  • Provide training and mentoring to team members

May perform other functions as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, statistics, or any related field
  • At least 5 years of Property/Casualty actuarial work, Commercial Lines Reserving experience preferred
  • ACAS designation highly preferred
  • Well-organized, flexible with the ability to consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, SQL, R, Visual Basic
  • Experience with Arius Reserving Software is highly beneficial
  • Practical experience using statistical techniques to build predictive models addressing underwriting or claim issues
  • Ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment and critical thinking skills in execution of assignments
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction
