Our Financial Actuaries are on the frontlines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG's major regulated and rated insurance operating companies globally.

About the role

We are seeking an actuarial professional with solid programming and modeling skills to assist with pricing and reserving for Financial Lines business. The Actuarial Analyst will be responsible for assisting with profitability studies, portfolio deep dives, working with underwriters on large account pricing, reserving, and model development & enhancements. They will partner with other actuaries in implementing best practices analytical techniques, assess the impact of loss trends and claims emergence on reserves, and partner with underwriters in assessing the impact of changes in appetite and portfolio mix. We are looking for an individual who is internally motivated, intellectually curious, able to manage multiple priorities, and driven to enhance existing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze the profitability of the Financial Lines Portfolio and help develop granular profitability improvement strategies.
  • Work closely with underwriting to develop pricing and underwriting strategies and identify pockets of profitable growth opportunities.
  • Monitor rate, exposure, retention, new and lost business changes. Monitor loss trends and relevant industry/regulatory changes and effectively communicate to management.
  • Improve current processes through automation using programming and modeling skills (SQL, Python, R, etc.).
  • Support development and design of analytical tools and pricing raters to help business effectively manage its portfolios; this includes improving pricing raters by implementing changes to existing raters.
  • Work with catastrophe modeling outputs to manage exposure accumulation and monitor price adequacy.
  • Estimate reserve needs and communicate how pricing and underwriting actions will impact reserve estimates to key stakeholders.
  • Assist in researching and developing best practices pricing and reserving techniques to be implemented across the business.


What we're looking for:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area
  • 2+ actuarial exams required
  • 1+ years of actuarial experience in commercial lines P&C insurance preferred; some experience specifically in Financial Lines preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Excel VBA, SQL, SAS, Python, R, or other programming languages required
  • Strong business and collaboration skills and responsive to service needs and operational demands
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
