Overview of the Position

The position is part of the Global Specialty US Actuarial pricing team supporting the Bond, Credit Risk, and Political Risk books of business. This position will work in close partnership with our Underwriting Divisions as well as Finance, Claims, and IT departments.

** Please note, candidates pursuing exams as well as those not pursuing exams will be considered for this role.  This role can be part of our Actuarial Student Program for an individual meeting requirements for entry into the program. **

Responsibilities

As a key member of the Global Specialty Actuarial team, this individual will perform a variety of Actuarial projects including reserve reviews, price monitoring, pricing tools, and rate filing support where applicable.

Reserving

  • Conduct semi-annual reserve reviews.
  • Partner with International Actuarial team.

Pricing

  • Refine, enhance, and/or create rating and pricing tools. 
  • Identify and analyze critical pricing and profitability benchmarks.
  • Analyze internal pricing results and competitor information when available.
  • Develop and maintain price monitoring systems and tools.
  • Seek out innovative approaches and apply R/SQL skills to enhance existing processes.
  • Partner with Actuarial and other colleagues within The Hartford who support similar lines of business.

General

  • Support financial planning and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to help guide and monitor strategy.
  • Initiate and participate in the development of procedures to improve data quality.
  • Present analyses and recommendations to teammates and business partners to guide future decisions.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Undergraduate degree with a major in Mathematics, Actuarial Science or related field of study.
  • Pursuing toward Associate/Fellowship designation preferred. Candidates with Actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered for this opportunity.
  • Minimum 2+ years of Property and Casualty Insurance Actuarial experience.
  • Knowledge of Actuarial pricing and reserving techniques.
  • Very strong technical/analytical skills; High proficiency in Excel required and experience with R/SQL preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value.
  • Teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with and influence individuals at different organizational levels.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$80,000 - $140,000
