[ Overview:

This position is part of the Business Intelligence team within Individual Solutions (I.S.). A professional in this position will provide actuarial insights in support of in force management, product, risk, and distribution decisions through reporting and analytics for life products and annuity products.

This position is part of the Actuarial exam-taking path. At Securian Financial the internal title for this position is Actuarial Sr. Analyst or Actuarial Consultant. The title and salary will be determined based on experience and exam progress.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work across a functional team of finance, product development, and risk management actuaries, as well as distribution.
  • Enhance our understanding of policyholder behavior by using data analytics to monitor, refine, and develop new behavioral insight on individual life and annuity products and their unique features for actuarial assumption development.
  • Assist in enterprise actuarial analytics program, focusing on advancing the analytics maturity curve from descriptive analytics to predictive analytics.
  • Leverages advanced analytic methodologies and techniques (e.g., RStudio, Tableau, SQL) to conduct data exploration and trend recognition.
  • Present your work, findings, and opinions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver the plan design and calculations for Individual Solutions sales incentives.
  • Support activation of the data and analytics workstream for I.S. Strategy.


Qualifications:
  • ASA/Near ASA designation
  • Experience and interest with data and analytics techniques
  • Strong ability to manipulate data (extraction, cleansing, joining)
  • Expertise with technical tools (R, Excel/VBA, SQL, Tableau)
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with a variety of audiences.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Commitment and ability to progress towards the FSA designation
  • Knowledge of individual life and annuity products and how they are distributed
  • Strong ability to develop and leverage relationships across Solutions Groups and Shared Services.
  • Curiosity and initiative to explore and work through ambiguous topics.

If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn't feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.

Physical Job Requirements:
  • Ability to utilize the keyboard, computer and/or mouse for up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
  • Ability to utilize the phone and/or virtual meeting platform for 1-4 hours per day
