Overview of the Position

Hartford Group Benefits (HGB) is charged with delivering the products and pricing that maintains our core disability products while looking to capitalize on a shifting market to drive profitable growth and new product development. We are looking for an individual with expertise in Group Disability products such as Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML), Short Term Disability (STD), and related insurance coverages for employer groups to support pricing and analytics.  This role will work closely with the Product and Underwriting teams in supporting all the pricing responsibilities for these products.  This individual will have interactions with other HGB teams including Distribution, Underwriting, Claims, Information Technology, Marketing, and Legal/Compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pricing development for current PFML annual plan changes
  • Pricing support for future expansion of new PFML states
  • Work with Product, Legal and Compliance to assist in monitoring legislation and regulatory changes around the ever-growing PFML landscape
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert in all the nuances and differences between each PFML state plan
  • Review competitor PFML manuals
  • Assist in building robust experience analysis/cadence to facilitate proactive vs reactive pricing improvements
  • Price and adjust STD offsets/expenses for changes in Paid Medical Leave regulations and benefits.
  • Support Operating Plan Loss Ratio development
  • Work closely with Underwriting and Distribution on new pricing opportunities and rate adjustments.
  • Assist in new Family Leave Insurance product pricing and analysis that will augment STD benefits
  • Support compliance and state reporting requirements as well as state filings
  • Support Non-Standard pricing requests
  • Partner with broader Actuarial team to ensure that underwriter questions are answered timely and accurately via a team pricing mailbox.
  • Make enhancements to existing processes to improve efficiency and improve pricing accuracy
  • Potential to support other Industry Verticals (e.g. Physician block, Educator block)

Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 2+ years of related work experience with Disability products and progressively increasing responsibilities
  • Associate of Society of Actuaries designation a plus
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate results in written, oral and presentation format
  • Strong analytic, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a broader team
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative, Big picture focus
  • Advanced use of Excel
  • R, and ThoughtSpot are pluses
  • Knowledge of Group pricing and experience rating techniques preferred

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$85,000 - $140,000

The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
