Overview:
Talcott Financial Group is seeking an Actuarial Consultant to support the Variable Annuity (VA) Hedge Valuation and Forecasting team. In addition to collaboration of the VA projections and strategy, the selected candidate shall partner with Enterprise Risk Management, IT, Finance, Investments and the Actuarial Modeling team. Additional key responsibilities include:
- Manage the daily hedging valuation platform, which consists of a nightly process that generates liability and asset market values, greeks, and sensitivities.
- Reporting on GAAP and Economic accounting lenses and working with various customers, including ERM, Investments and Finance, to provide analysis and details regarding the explanations for financial results.
- Forecast Economics and GAAP results under various projected market conditions and communicating results to senior leaders, who use the analysis to inform key business decisions.
- Execute reporting requests promptly and reliably as a member of a dynamic reporting team; contribute actively to the team's success and continued development
- Identify and implement reporting/process improvement opportunities as they arise in the course of work
- Assist in the design, build, testing, and maintenance of best-in-class analytical tools and models that support various uses including risk management, valuation, capital planning and other financial reporting activities
- Coordinate/lead release processes across functional teams to enhance the hedging valuation platforms for assets and liabilities, including implementing any new business into the daily process
- Develop the insights and knowledge to understand the analytics and financial metrics this team is responsible for in order to answer business questions
- Develop the in-depth knowledge needed to apply our analytical tools in a variety of situations, including those for which our infrastructure was not necessarily designed specifically to accommodate
- Assist with ad hoc projects that support Talcott Financial Group strategies.
- Overseeing the production of the quarterly GAAP results, including financial reporting decks and presenting analyses to senior leaders and business partners
- Leading financial attribution analysis of GAAP results for the assumption unlocks
- Collaborating with other Talcott Financial Group actuaries and Finance teammates to explain trends and irregularities within the results
- Enhancing and tailoring presentation of results to meet evolving business needs
- Our preferred candidate shall work in a hybrid arrangement in our Hartford, CT. office
- Remote work arrangements will be considered.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or related field
- At least one or more internship experiences related to actuarial science
- Minimum of two years of experience in insurance or finance, including actuarial valuation or modelling, is preferred
- Strong teamwork skills to foster an effective working relationship with multiple areas
- Strong work ethic, including the ability to multi-task and balance priorities and the desire to take pride in and ownership of work products
- Self-confidence in dealing with new situations and initiatives that have not been done before
- Desire to automate and improve current processes and procedures
- Effective communication skills and strength in organizational capabilities are a plus
- Good organization/project management skills
- Familiarity with Excel, R-Studio, Power BI, and SQL.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of all aspects of the role.
- Willingness to consult with various colleagues to gain deep familiarity of the business, understand modeling and assumptions.
