Our Personal Lines Actuarial team is seeking an Actuarial Director to join our growing team in Worcester, MA, Windsor, CT, Howell, MI or remote work location consideration.
This is a full time, exempt position.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Actuarial Director role is responsible for managing a team of pricing actuaries within our Personal Lines actuarial team, reporting directly to the Actuarial State Pricing AVP for Personal Lines. This is a highly visible position, with day-to-day responsibility for all pricing activities for 1/3rd or more of The Hanover's $2.5B Personal Lines business.
The Actuarial Director role provides overall management and technical oversight to a team of analysts with varying degrees of experience and is expected to take on a more hands on approach when required. This role requires partnership across the Personal Lines actuarial team, as well as the broader organization including Personal Lines State Management, Underwriting, Product, Technology, and Finance.
Direct responsibilities include managing rate reviews with an eye towards process improvement, loss ratio planning, supporting product development, and leveraging analytics to advance more sophisticated pricing strategies and solutions.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Manage and lead a team of actuarial analysts, ensuring execution of deliverables while navigating unanticipated situations
- Be responsible for the professional development as well as performance and compensation management for your team
- Oversee analysis in support of overall personal lines pricing strategy including continued advancements of pricing sophistication
- Proactively analyze profitability and mix of business to provide rate and strategy recommendations to business partners
- Drive innovation within the Personal Lines state pricing team, enhancing our countrywide performance tracking and analysis
- Lead meetings in which you effectively integrate technical analysis and organizational strategy to business partners and upper management
- Influence and negotiate the appropriate actions to support strategic goals of the organization
- Own the actuarial rate indications and actuarial assumption updates for assigned states
- Understand external market forces, proactively share these with business partners and other relevant stakeholders, and incorporate into decision making
- Provide actuarial support on routine insurance department inquiries as needed
- Review and have responsibility for filings to support and implement rate and product enhancements
- May lead or participate in community recruiting and/or training activities
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant technical field
- Seven+ years of technical experience in multiple LOB and/or actuarial disciplines such as pricing, reserving or advanced analytics.
- Experience with predictive modeling preferred
- Minimum of 2 years in management capacity
- ACAS required, FCAS preferred
- Advanced communication skills
- Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Intermediate programming skills, including the ability to develop and automate processes
- Demonstrated knowledge of all techniques used to model various assumptions
- Able to apply and interpret company policies and procedures
- Able to direct activities of others, motivate and develop staff
- Must be eligible for to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future (ie. US citizen or Greencard holder)
