A seasoned Actuary who directly manages, plans and implements data, reporting and analytics in support of P&C Actuarial Reserving Department. A key component of this role will be leading the department’s migration of data processes into a cloud environment (Google Cloud Platform). Leads a team and directs the activities of this actuarial area. Is accountable for meeting the data needs of individual line of business teams for quarterly reserve reviews. Drives improvements in process efficiencies and quality of data and tools used by reserving department.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Assist in enterprise initiatives for data structures and visualizations to facilitate consistency and efficiency in extracting and analyzing data across the P&C Reserving department.
  • Serve as an expert and a change champion on modern cloud-based technologies for the P&C Reserving department.
  • Ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data.
  • Innovate and improve efficiency of managing data to allow for greater speed and accuracy of producing analyses, metrics and insights.
  • Collaborates with management, technical staff and subject matter advisors to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis and develop cost effective resolutions for data anomalies
  • Supports delivery of key items including but not limited to the Statement of Actuarial Opinion, reserve review documentation and audit requests.
  • Directs the work activities and has full management responsibility for the performance, coaching and development of a team.
  • Builds strong relationships with direct reports, peers, business partners and leaders across multiple functions to support business strategies aligned with actuarial insights and analytics.
  • Participates with senior leadership in the development and implementation of actuarial policies, business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals, and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
  • Ensures team is maintaining clear documentation.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationship

  • AVP or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Senior level knowledge of actuarial principles, practices and procedures and industry issues as they relate to the organization.  
  • Ability to effectively lead, coach and develop an actuarial group.  
  • Ability to achieve results by taking a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives. 
  • Experience influencing business partners at various levels.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of ten years of related work experience.
  • Typically has attained Fellowship accreditation (FCAS).

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the standard base pay range for this role is $78,500 to $301,400 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
