Overview:
Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is currently seeking an Actuarial Intern to join the Actuarial Department for Summer 2026. This internship offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in actuarial science through meaningful projects that support our goal to be a leading small business insurance provider nationwide.
Responsibilities
As an Actuarial Intern, you will work alongside experienced actuarial professionals and contribute to a range of impactful projects. Your experience will involve:
- Supporting pricing, reserving, and/or data science initiatives through assigned projects and analysis.
- Applying actuarial and statistical techniques to evaluate our insurance products and assess profitability.
- Learning and applying actuarial methods while working with internal and external data sources.
- Creating data visualizations using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
- Presenting findings and insights to Actuarial leadership and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in a four-year degree program for actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or related field (sophomore level or above preferred).
- GPA of 3.0 or higher required.
- Completion of an actuarial exam preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Excel and/or PowerBI.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with data and statistical analysis performed in SQL, R, and/or Python preferred.
- Ability to take initiative and ownership of assigned projects in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
Pay Range:
$23-$27 per hour.
The successful candidate is expected to work in one of our offices 3 days per week and also be available for travel as required.
The annual hourly range posted represents a broad range of hourly rates around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.
