Position Responsibilities or Project Details
- Understands, programs, tests, and validates data using Access, Excel or advanced programming techniques (e.g., SQL, C#, etc.)
- Performs ad-hoc reporting
- Reviews own work for accuracy
- Uses established documentation and procedures and recommends updates where appropriate
Expected Outcomes
The Actuarial Intern will be responsible for the functions described in one or more of the following areas:
PRICING AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
- Performs competitor studies or other related product research
- Utilizes MG-ALFA actuarial software to develop financial models
- Gathers data needed to develop or validate pricing assumptions
- Supports the creation of models through data gathering, data validation, and grouping of assets & liabilities
VALUATION AND FINANCIAL REPORTING
- Performs experience studies
- Assists in the calculation and validation of statutory, GAAP, and tax reserves
- Runs month-end reporting process
- Gathers data for financial statement preparation
- Updates and runs financial forecasting models
Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
- Completion of at least one Society of Actuaries exam preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Access and Excel
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Programming and testing in a database environment
- Reviewing results for accuracy and reasonableness
- Learning company operations, systems and actuarial methodologies quickly
- Working to meet deadlines with limited supervision
