Section 1: Position Summary

Manage actuarial and technical aspects of Defined Benefit and Cash Balance plans, balancing the workload across staff to ensure all regulatory due dates are met. Stay informed of law changes, ensure our plans and policies are kept in compliance, and our staff trained on the latest developments. Assist with reviewing client projects and managing workflow for internal and external deliverables.

Section 2: Position Responsibilities:
  • Manage work schedules, time off, and overtime needs for Silver Specialists to ensure appropriate staffing levels are met.
  • Manage productivity, performance measurements, case assignments and efficiency of Silver Specialists.
  • Manage workflow to ensure that projects are delivered timely to meet expectations and service standards.
  • Manage recruiting process and ensuring appropriate staffing for the department.
  • Keep up with and notify staff of new developments in law related to the retirement plan industry.
  • Review industry communications for new ideas for our pension practice and participate in EA Policy Committee to process ideas and technical issues
  • Answer Actuarial questions from staff in a helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive manner
  • Manage the training, mentoring, and guiding career growth of Silver Specialists.
  • Research the Internal Revenue Code and other technical resources to resolve client issues
  • Review client projects and ensure accurate client deliverables including, but not limited to:
    • Non-Discrimination testing
    • 401(a)(4) testing
    • Complex benefit calculations
    • Actuarial valuations and reports
    • Plan documents, amendments, employee communications (SPDs, etc.)
    • IRS (Form 5310) and PBGC (Form 500 series) termination submissions
    • ASC 715/960
  • Maintain master documents and procedures to comply with updates to pension laws, regulations, and assist with improvements to our work product.
  • Provide back up to other teams, as necessary.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Responsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.

    • Actuarial valuations and reports
    • Non-Discrimination testing and contribution calculations
    • ASC 715/960
    • Contribution projections
    • Plan studies
    • Interpreting and drafting language for plan documents
    • Government forms and benefit calculations
    • Training technical staff
  • Preferred: Enrolled Actuary
  • B.A./B.S. degree preferred
  • Advanced understanding of:
    • pension law
    • plan documents and IRS favorable determination letters
    • actuarial valuations and software systems
