What You Can Expect In This Role

Serve as a leader in the development and execution of accurate and efficient tools and processes to support the actuarial function(s) related tothis role. Analyze, summarize and present management information to drive decisions. Understand Sammons Financial Group Companies' (Sammons Financial Group) financial objectives and ensure processes and work product support those objectives. Provide technical guidance to others and lead projects as directed.
What You'll Do In This Role
• Develop basic working knowledge of Sammons Financial Group products related to area of focus. Understand new products and make recommendations regarding how to incorporate into existing models and/or actuarial processes.
• Understand the basic types of insurance contracts and actuarial related regulations, basic product features and policy transactions. Apply understanding of product designs in actuarial processes.
• Develop basic knowledge of assumptions required for actuarial calculations and modeling and make recommendations regarding how to incorporate into existing models and/or actuarial processes. Understand the rationale for making simple assumptions and judgments based on internal available data. Document assumptions made to support the work and the sources of data used.
• Develop basic knowledge of actuarial modeling and/or valuation software. (i.e. what the key elements are, what they can be used for and their potential shortcomings) Apply knowledge to assist in coding and running the models for a variety of purposes. Input and check the data and parameters as well as document the model inputs and model results for review by others.
• Use spreadsheet, database and other data analytic software to perform data analysis and summarize aggregated data. Present aggregated data verbally, numerically, graphically or in another written format to highlight key features. Perform checks to confirm the robustness of the data and analysis.
• Provide expert direction and support for one or more actuarial processes. Lead and mentor technical design and delivery activities; prepare and interpret architectural requirements. Create and maintain development and delivery standards and specifications.
• Contribute to developing the roadmap for improving and/or further leveraging actuarial processes.
• Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information resources against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction or disclosure. Recommend product or service improvements and upgrades.
• Participate in and support the identification and resolution of actuarial process issues. Define and document solution approach for technical problems or opportunities.
• Work individually or in teams to complete projects on time and with high quality. Effectively plan and prioritize your own work in accordance with broader team or department objectives and priorities.
• Develop relationships with other departments and business units. As needed, perform actuarial calculations to support administration or test IT functionality.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Science or Management Information Systems Preferred
  • 4-6 years' experience in the field of Actuarial Science Preferred
  • 4-6 years' IT architecture and development experience Preferred
  • Demonstrate strong problem solving skills and sense of curiosity sufficient to perform research and recommend a proposed solution to problems
  • Demonstrate a superior level of mathematical ability, attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of applicable technical tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present highly technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Self-motivated and proven ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and meet established deadlines; demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities
  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment
  • ASA Preferred

Salary Range Information

USD $92,876.00 - USD $154,793.00 /Yr. Range includes data points from multiple labor markets. Specific range is dependent on the labor market where the incumbent will be hired to perform the position. Starting salary is dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. For a narrower salary range specific to your labor market, please inquire.
