Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the U.S. retirement market, is seeking an Actuary to work in its Valuation Actuarial Department. Security Benefit has been dedicated to helping clients plan and save for retirement for nearly five decades. Over the last several years it has become a top provider of retirement products and services through a nationwide network of independent financial representatives. The Actuary will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or Overland Park, Kansas office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

General Accountabilities

The Actuary is responsible for asset adequacy analysis and PBR stochastic modeling annuity products in support of fulfilling the strategic objectives for the Valuation Actuarial Department within the Security Benefit Life Insurance Company. The actuary manages the financial success of annuity and retirement products by performing statutory modeling, attribution analysis, and analyzing in-force business. Candidates must possess strong leadership, financial and analytical skills and be able to successfully work with various departments, senior leadership, and outside consultants to manage a variety of actuarial initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a couple of associates and students
  • Manage PBR stochastic modeling for annuity business
  • Manage asset adequacy testing process for annuity business
  • Manage other projects as assigned


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with major or minor in Actuarial Science or Mathematics or equivalent
  • Associate of Society of Actuaries required
  • Fellow of Society of Actuaries preferred
  • At least six years of actuarial experience with an FSA
  • At least eight years of actuarial experience with an ASA
  • Asset adequacy testing and PBR stochastic modeling experience required.
  • Experience with actuarial modeling software required, using Prophet a plus
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and actuarial software
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others within and outside the Company
