Global Surety has an exciting opportunity for an Actuary to join our Actuarial & Analytics team, striving to seamlessly integrate cutting-edge analytics into every Surety decision. In this role, you will perform and review non-traditional applications of actuarial concepts to support the profitability, growth, and operational objectives of Global Surety. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain risk-based pricing (RBP) tools, design and implement enhancements to underlying RBP methodology, and develop new tool functionality.
  • Communicate quarterly price adequacy insights for various aggregations of the Surety portfolio across the relevant levels of underwriting leadership.
  • Cultivate collaborative business relationships with culturally diverse underwriting teams through actuarial support related to pricing decisions.
  • Enhance underwriting capabilities by providing training to underwriters on RBP tools.
  • Work with partners in IT to build, test, and implement innovative pricing tools for the underwriting organization.
  • Collaborate with actuarial peers across GRS to ensure consistent pricing and reporting practices when appropriate.
  • Develop and implement controls and documentation of assumptions, methods, and processes, and streamline current recurring processes.
  • Apply actuarial techniques beyond the traditional environment to continuously improve upon existing practices and conduct ad hoc analyses, including the efficient use of platforms like SQL, SAS, PowerBI, Python, PowerApps, and VBA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters Degree preferred.
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or in Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation preferred or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
  • Attaining Associateship alone is not a sufficient criterion to operate at this level, especially if exams have been passed very rapidly.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required;
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates;
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.); Ability to build complex models.
