Job Description

The Company’s Group Finance Actuarial (GFA) area supports Manulife Financial Chief Actuary to fulfill his mandate across our global organization post-IFRS17 implementation. Within GFA, our team (System, Data and Reporting Applications team) has a mandate of integrating Actuarial System, Data, Modeling and Reporting functions for a seamless end-to-end reporting process, making Manulife the leading digitalized company in the industry. The team provides leadership and oversight for building automated actuarial reporting processes and controls related to valuation, capital management, participating account management and reinsurance of in force blocks, making sure they are built consistently with IFRS17 standards and regulatory guidelines.

In this role, the incumbent will be collaborating with colleagues across different functions (BU valuation/pricing, Segment Modeling, Group Capital, GFA Policy, ALM, IF management, System/IT area, etc.) to enhance the efficiency of financial reporting requirements from different internal customers and ultimately to support the overall business strategic growth objectives. This is a unique position to:

a) gain experience on a wide range of actuarial reporting processes and ad-hoc projects;

b) collaborating with experienced professionals at different levels with different background (finance, actuarial, data, IT and capital)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement technology-based solutions for complex projects related to automated data sourcing, calculation processing and financial statement interpretation on behalf of each business unit (e.g. new product / new reinsurance treaty launches, BC reporting pre-quarter-end, earning forecast app., etc.)
  • Prepare technical documentation in tandem with the application development.
  • Support Moody’s Axis and Risk Integrity (RI) upgrades and test the implications to the automated end-to-end valuation reporting processes.
  • Maintain and update Reserve Movement Analysis (RMA) driver files and RI driver files. 
  • Provide expert support and resolve identified issues during both testing phases and urgent quarter end reporting periods.
  • Create procedural documentation and provide training to end-users and other key stakeholders.
  • Establish close and collaborative partnerships with other teams, sharing expertise and learnings throughout the development, testing and maintenance phases.

What we are looking for

  • Qualified FSA/FCIA (or close to obtaining the designations)
  • Detailed oriented with strong problem-solving skills. Understanding of actuarial reporting, data discovery and analysis requirements.
  • Prior IFRS actuarial reporting experience and knowledge of insurance products is a plus (e.g. RMA analysis and source of earnings reporting on Life/Annuity products)
  • Demonstrated programming or scripting experience with apps (Python and Qlik)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely when presenting technical issues, options, and recommendations to senior management
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams - proven ability to build relationships and influence others.
  • Strong organization skill with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks based on the urgency of different internal customers.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$100,500.00 CAD - $180,900.00 CAD
