This opportunity is within the Workers’ Compensation line of business pricing actuarial team, supporting an approximately $3B book, across both Small (SC) and Middle/Large Commercial (MLC) segments.  The Hartford is a market leader within the WC industry, with significant visibility from leadership.

This position supports various pricing tools and develops guidance to help support profitable growth. The individual will have the opportunity to directly work with a variety of business partners including product, underwriting, data science, IT, and multiple teams across actuarial.

We are looking for individuals who are curious and motivated to improve current processes and who can communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the WC LOB Actuarial team, this individual will perform a variety of actuarial functions including:

  • Participate in the development, enhancement and maintenance of actuarial pricing methodologies and tools used by the Underwriting, Product and Sales teams.  This includes tools that focus on risk segmentation as well as development of account-specific indicated premium pick.
  • Update pricing model parameters while adding enhancements for improved accuracy and process efficiency wherever possible.
  • Foster a strong connection between teammates and key business partners.  Collaborate with our product business partners to provide accurate views of profitability and perform analytics that identify and address business issues.
  • Support the production implementation of various pricing initiatives.
  • Stay apprised of broader industry trends and perspectives

Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years of P&C Insurance actuarial experience.
  • Near to recent ACAS/ASA preferred. Candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered for this opportunity.
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively in an environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrated Excel skills required and experience with R and/or SQL preferred.
  • Predictive Modeling experience in SAS, EMB, R, Python or other modeling software preferred, but not required.
  • Note this can be a full time, remote work opportunity

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$96,240 - $144,360
