Overview:

The actuarial analysis function within the Individual Life Reinsurance Solutions team is responsible for developing, analyzing, and recommending reinsurance solutions that span every facet of Individual Life's reinsurance program including both internal and external reinsurance arrangements, and both inforce and new business reinsurance arrangements. This includes partnering across key stakeholder functions to ensure analytical and modelling consistency, leading cross-functional efforts internally and with reinsurers to evaluate and make recommendations, and partnering with the Reinsurance Execution and Post-Execution teams on implementation. It also includes support for ongoing activities including counterparty risk management, actuarial assumptions, and reinsurance-related research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate and lead end-to-end projects to optimize the financial outcomes and risks of the reinsurance arrangements in Individual Life's reinsurance portfolio.
    • This may include but is not limited to: new business reinsurance pool rebids, inforce treaty evaluation and optimization, inter-affiliate (internal) reinsurance arrangements, and case-specific facultative reinsurance.
    • The scope of work will include project planning, engaging stakeholders, defining data needs and assumptions, conducting or reviewing analysis with a focus on the range of outcomes, identifying the tradeoffs and impact of various solution options, negotiating options with external reinsurers, forming recommendations, preparing and delivering presentations for senior leaders, and coordinating with the appropriate teams on deal execution.
  • Support various activities as needed to maintain existing reinsurance arrangements including counterparty risk management, reinsurance assumptions, treaty compliance (research, analyze, and ensure alignment between treaty provisions and actual administration), and engagement with external reinsurers (provide data as needed, seek their perspective on trending, address issues as needed, etc.).
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to business partners on new and inforce reinsurance agreements within Individual Life, and other Prudential business units and functions as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of continuous process improvement and operating "Better, Bolder, and Faster" with a focus on:
    • Maximizing value-add of skills and expertise,
    • Proactively seeking ways to enhance individual and collective team knowledge base and skills,
    • Minimizing repetitive tasks that can otherwise be automated or avoided by streamlining processes, and
    • Thinking differently about the work to creatively and constructively adopt processes that make sense for all stakeholders.


Requirements:
  • 2+ years of experience in financial services, either in an actuarial, financial analysis, or financial reporting capacity. Previous reinsurance experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills. Modelling skills and individual life product knowledge are strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication/presentation skills spanning various audiences and leadership levels.
  • Proven ability to design and lead cross functional, collaborative efforts ranging from small exercises to broad-scale projects.
  • Skilled at resolving conflict, influencing, and negotiating effectively with internal and external parties.
  • Actuarial credentials are not required. Exam progress will be supported.
  • Approach work with intellectual curiosity and transparency with an openness to giving and receiving feedback.
  • A growth mindset focused on expanding one's personal skills in support of the organization.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, thinking beyond functional responsibilities to broader business strategy.
  • Highly organized, collaborative, creative, and adept at handling multiple, changing priorities where creative solutioning is required.

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $111,400.00 to $165,800.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance. In addition, employees are eligible for standard benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental and retirement.
