Associate Actuary (Life Valuation Special Projects) at Transamerica in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will lead assumption setting and valuation work across life blocks (UL, IUL, VUL, Traditional Life) under IFRS/GAAP/Stat, analyze complex transactions and reinsurance, and deliver findings to senior management. The role is an individual contributor on a hybrid Special Projects team with emphasis on modeling (AXIS preferred), automation and strategic initiatives.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
- Lead IFRS/GAAP/Stat assumption setting and model testing across life blocks
- Assess reserving, hedging, reinsurance and policyholder behavior for UL/IUL/VUL/Traditional Life
- Build and run actuarial models (AXIS proficiency preferred)
- Hybrid role based in Cedar Rapids, IA with occasional travel
- FSA required or ASA with substantial experience; strong communication skills needed
DOMAIN EXPERTISE
- Assumption setting across life blocks (IFRS/GAAP/Stat)
- UL/IUL/VUL reserving and hedging impact analysis
- Reinsurance assessment (YRT, Coinsurance, Sidecar, Captives)
- Traditional life policyholder behavior modeling
- AXIS model development and testing
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree + 5 years relevant experience (Master's + 4 years accepted)
- FSA required or ASA with 8 years of relevant experience in lieu of FSA
- Experience with life valuation, assumption setting under IFRS/GAAP/Stat
- Proven ability to analyze large datasets and communicate to senior leadership
- Advanced modeling skills and strong computer skills
