The Associate Actuary-Risk role is a member of the Corporate Risk Management organization providing mathematical and technical support in the risk management of insurance products. The focus is on reinsurance, counterparty and the risk of assets supporting insurance liabilities. You will work independently and as a team lead. You will also work in collaboration with experts across the company including asset management, asset-liability Management, capital, and actuarial (including reinsurance) to measure and analyze risk, and influence decisions on credit and counterparty risk tolerance, modeling of credit risk and asset allocations, and coordinate with the broader financial risk ecosystem.
This is a high-profile role, with exposure to executive management of the company locally and internationally. You will be a technical expert and will also lead development of the team and will manage others. You will report to the Senior Director Financial Risk.
What you do:
- Leadership & Management:
- Lead a team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the successful execution of projects and achievement of organizational goals.
- Serve as an expert in the evolution of risk analysis practice and application for our organization, promoting a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Train, mentor, and provide direction to members of the risk team, including risk analysts, ensuring professional development and effective teamwork.
- Model Development & Maintenance:
- Build, maintain, and enhance financial, credit, and capital models for reporting and analysis, including statistical loss modeling and sensitivity testing to support management and the parent company.
- Develop an approach to statistical analysis of credit and counterparty risk tolerance and co-develop of risk limits for the portfolio.
- Use industry standard tools to perform detailed analytics of the asset portfolio and risks contained, evaluate assets against investment guidelines (internal and reinsurer), risk review of asset allocations, and counterparty review.
- Strategic Evaluation & Support:
- Develop and maintain scenario analysis to evaluate alternative Strategic Asset Allocations (SAA), new investments, asset managers, asset classes, and reinsurance counterparties.
- Prepare and independently lead the preparation of financial risk and capital reports, memorandums, and other risk-supporting analyses, including regular credit reporting, ad hoc analyses, counterparty analysis (including reinsurance), and responses to requests from external auditors, state regulators, and rating agencies.
- Cross-functional Communication:
- Communicate risk results to cross-functional areas, including department personnel, internal and external asset managers, actuaries, and other financial professionals.
- Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI).
What you bring:
- 8+ years' of experience in the financial services or insurance industry with Reinsurance and/or counterparty experience
- Quantitative risk management and / or asset-liability management.
- Background in mathematics including strong programming ability.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, applicable to assets and counterparties.
- Build and direct model build efforts, including expertise in data governance and model controls
- Tools: SQL, Aladdin, PAM, PowerBI,
- Experience expressing risk in quantitative and qualitative aspects
- Strong relationship building experience and ability to communicate across multiple business functions
- CFA designation or similar preferred
- You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require immigration sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B, L-1, TN, etc). If you are currently on CPT/OPT, you are ineligible due to the need for future immigration sponsorship.
Range: $98,000 - $196,000Actual base salary may vary based upon factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity of peers, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual incentive program.
