Job Description

We currently seek an Associate Director and Actuary, Institutional Markets ("IM"). This position will report directly to the Chief Finance Actuary ("CFA") of IM, and will have frequent and regular interaction with the IM management team providing actuarial and finance support across the business unit.

IM has enjoyed substantial growth in the past several years, which is expected to continue, offering a dynamic and positive team environment. The CFA team touches on all actuarial aspects of the IM business leading to a well-rounded view with countless learning and growth opportunities. The position will work with a wide variety of supporting functions including Finance, Valuation, Pricing, Experience Studies, Modeling, and ALM.

The IM business includes various product types: Pension Risk Transfer ("PRT"), Structured Settlements ("SS"), Guaranteed Investment Contracts ("GICs"), Corporate Owned Life Insurance ("COLI")/ Bank Owned Life Insurance ("BOLI"), High Net Worth ("HNW"), and Stable Value Wraps ("SVW").

Role and Responsibilities

This role is responsible for leading some of IM's special actuarial projects as well as playing an oversight role for all actuarial activities. More specifically, the position will focus on:
  • Understanding and improving earnings analysis for Long Duration Targeted Improvements ("LDTI"). This will involve results review, analyzing earnings to explain movements and trends to senior IM management, including reserve roll-forwards and variance analysis for the monthly and quarterly valuation process.
  • Support forecasting and budget processes for LDTI and statutory reporting bases. Enhance forecasting and budget tools.
  • Support growth of UK Collateralized Reinsurance Transactions through in-force modeling and other special projects
  • Understanding experience studies results and their business impacts while ensuring valuation, inforce and pricing models, and risk management assumptions are consistent, where appropriate. This will become even more critical under the LDTI framework during the annual assumption review and unlocking process
  • Reviewing annual Cash Flow Testing and loss recognition analysis, monthly forecasting for liabilities, and periodic review of Internal Capital and ALM analytics
  • Perform field testing for upcoming VM-22 statutory updates for payout annuities
  • Supporting initiatives of the office of the CFO/CFA as necessary


Position Requirements
  • This individual should be an experienced Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • A bachelor's degree is required
  • 7+ years of progressively more responsible actuarial experience with life insurance and annuity products


Candidate Profile
  • The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with the IM management team as well as the finance, valuation, and other IM teams to ensure consistency across work streams
  • Ideal candidate will have a background in payout annuities (PRT, SS)
  • 3+ years of experience with actuarial projection software (AXIS preferred)
  • Experience with valuation, financial reporting, business planning and experience studies
  • General actuarial competency related to pricing, valuation (economic, GAAP, and statutory), and modeling of life insurance products
  • Highly motivated and results-oriented
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Desire to deliver high quality work product
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional collaborative teams and in working with senior management
  • Goal oriented and well-organized, with the ability to develop and manage disciplined processes.

For positions based in Woodland Hills, California, the base salary range is $110,000 - $160,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. In addition, we're proud to offer a range of competitive benefits,.
