Responsibilities

The AVP, Actuary is responsible for ensuring that price levels and loss reserves are adequate, assessing the profitability of business being underwritten and fulfilling corporate reporting requirements on a monthly and quarterly basis. Provide management with data analysis required to support strategic initiatives. Key functions include but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for quarterly reserving analysis including presenting reserve position to company leadership.
  • Responsible for month-end reporting including price monitoring and Actual vs. Expected calculations for all segments of business.
  • Identify, retrieve, and prepare data in support of actuarial analysis through database programming.
  • Evaluate all current actuarial processes and create efficiencies / automations through programming language.
  • Perform advanced analytics and modeling techniques to support business strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in enterprise risk management initiatives, including catastrophe management and evaluation of industry model output.
  • Provide rate filing support to regulatory and compliance team.
  • Lead the actuarial component of the company's planning process.
  • Create Data Visualization reports / dashboards to facilitate the tracking and monitoring of company initiatives.
  • Develop pricing benchmarks and monitoring tools to empower underwriters when pricing business.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent with emphasis in Mathematics, Statistics or Actuarial Science.
  • Associate or Fellowship Designation from the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Minimum of 7 years actuarial experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, knowledge of programming languages such as Visual Basic, SQL, R, Python or others.
  • Knowledge of Data Visualization software such as Power BI and Tableau a plus.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and create slide presentations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other company disciplines: Finance, Underwriting & Claims.
  • Strong attention to details, must produce accurate work products and proactively identify issues to be resolved.
