Job Description

The analytics focused Assistant Vice President, Actuary is responsible for developing, analyzing, and maintaining rates and pricing models for the North America Small Commercial Insurance Division's Workers' Compensation Line

This role can be based in Jersey City, NJ, Whitehouse Station, NJ, Philadelphia, PA, or Simsbury, CT on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote). Fully remote will be considered for strong candidates.

Responsibilities:

Pricing, Modeling & Implementation
  1. Build and review workers' compensation predictive pricing models using advanced statistical modeling techniques with the highest level of buy-in from business partners; Set up regular and rigorous model refresh process
  2. Oversee modeling initiatives with clear documentation and manage cross-functional teams including product, actuaries, data scientists/engineers via an Agile culture and delivery model
  3. Research workers compensation industry trends and analyze industry data to incorporate into pricing models & rating plans
  4. Develop non-pricing models including but not limited to pricing elasticity and demand forecast etc.
  5. Lead rating implementation and governance process in externalized rating platforms and lead actuarial production support for existing rating implementations

Data & Reporting
  1. Foster data integrity, quantitative discipline, and analytical rigor, including the continuous enhancement of 1st and 3rd party data used in modeling, underwriting, and monitoring
  2. Conduct deep dive into existing 1st and 3rd party data assets and identify gaps in data availability, coverage, and accuracy; Partner with the data organization to identify root cause and rectify identified deficiencies
  3. Identify and evaluate new 3rd party data sources and oversee integration of 3rd party data sources into pricing modeling and underwriting
  4. Develop rigorous portfolio management processes to accurately monitor pricing model performance, rate & exposure changes, frequency & severity trend, and business mix
  5. Closely collaborate with Portfolio Management and Reporting functions to develop automated and real time portfolio monitoring capabilities to inform pricing and underwriting actions

Core Actuarial
  1. Oversee WC actuarial profitability study process and develop sound rate indications
  2. Leverage actuarial and data science techniques to analyze patterns and trends
  3. Participate in division financial planning through pro-forma portfolio modeling and forecasting
  4. Peer review relevant Reserving and other actuarial work efforts
  5. Proactively engage wider Actuarial community from other business divisions to drive knowledge sharing and methodology change on common actuarial projects


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated actuarial proficiency with workers compensation insurance pricing and/or reserving practices via significant prior work experience (5+ years; ACAS/FCAS)
  • 2+ years of building & implementing Commercial Lines Pricing models
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative analysis skills
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and or R; hands on coding is expected in this role
  • Knowledge of WTW Radar a plus
  • Working knowledge of version control through GIT
  • Strong familiarity and strategic vision for technological innovation across platforms, data, and analytics
  • Experience working in digital driven ecosystems/companies a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking
  • Ability to project influence and affect outcomes

The pay range for the role is $102,000 to $168,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, more details on which can be found on our careers website. The disclosed pay range estimate may be adjusted for the applicable geographic differential for the location in which the position is filled.
