Job Description Summary
ESS strategy focuses on selling Specialty Products that require both technical and product expertise to price. Underwriters in this space are specialists and required specialists on the pricing side. The Specialty products focus on niche players with specific product expertise. The products include D&O, E&O, Fidelity, Fiduciary, Cyber, Surety, and High Excess Casualty.

As the AVP of Specialty Pricing, you will work with Specialty Underwriting to ensure achievement of price adequacy and achieve business outcomes. Additionally, you'll lead and manage pricing strategy, indications, analysis, and measurement of rate achieved for Specialty Lines of Business. You will be a key leader and thought partner within the Specialty leadership team. You will also be tasked with advancing tools and techniques within the excess & surplus/Specialty Lines and have a laser focus on developing talent within the pricing space.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides focus and consistent leadership for the pricing function for Specialty Lines of Business.
  • Thought leader and key driver for adoption of advanced analytics tools and techniques to deliver pricing advantage in partnership with advanced analytics team.
  • Overseeing program new product analysis and vetting.
  • Provides actuarial support for reinsurance transactions and negotiations.
  • Ensures timely delivery of actuarial requirements for tools and systems.
  • Partners with Reserving, Specialty leadership, Finance, other ESS Pricing Leaders, enterprise-wide Pricing Leaders, Data and Analytics, and centralized finance and actuarial tools shop.
  • Focuses on pricing talent and skills & tools of the future.
  • Influences business decisions and collaborates in strategic planning and policy development for the company as well as tactical planning for a specific division. Ensures execution of corporate initiates.
  • Oversees and leads associate management to include performance management, talent management, engagement, salary planning and administration and resource demand management strategies.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, Strategic Pricing Leader. Manages a team of 4+ associates with 10 or more indirect reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: B.S. or B.A degree strongly preferred. MBA or equivalent desirable

License/Certification/Designation: Fellowship or Associateship in Casualty Actuary Society required.

Experience: Typically, 10 or more years professional actuarial experience in Specialty and Specialty Market.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven management lines and specialty market knowledge. Demonstrated ability at leadership, coaching, and strong communication skills with all levels of an organization. Possesses excellent leadership and technical actuarial skills. Enjoys learning modern techniques and how to use emerging tools in actuarial science.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for AVP, Pricing - E&S Specialty : 155,000.00-305,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, Pricing - E&S Specialty : 163,000.00 - 273,000.00 ]
