Cigna Investment Management (CIM) has overall responsibility for the over $30 billion of invested assets for Cigna's Insurance Portfolios and the Cigna Pension Plans. What we are looking for:

The Investment Actuary/Portfolio Manager is part of the team that manages Cigna's US insurance, International Insurance and Pension portfolios. This job is an important member of the team supporting the overall team goals and managing their own portfolios. This role will collaborate and work closely with other portfolio managers, business and corporate finance partners, trading, fixed income, alternatives and real estate, accounting, legal, finance and IT teams.

Our ideal candidate has experience in insurance portfolio management or asset liability management, enjoys solving complex problems with smart people, has both big picture thinking and attention to detail and likes working with many different teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Management of assigned portfolios, development of portfolio strategies, monitoring portfolio metrics, managing liquidity, credit, interest rate risks, implementing purchase and sale programs and allocating investments
  • Lead development of new models and systems to analyze potential and existing strategies and the impact on regulatory compliance, liquidity management, counterparty exposure, surplus investing and investment income projections
  • Participate in CIM infrastructure upgrade project working groups and collaborate across CIM and with Data Team to define, manage and govern essential data for portfolio management
  • Work with portfolio analysts to create communication materials such as quarterly reports to clients, presentations for senior management and external stakeholders and portfolio management reports
  • Monitor and summarize economics, market themes and market activity for the portfolio management team
  • Manage overall allocation process serving as point person for insurance portfolios and communicating with asset teams on deal specifics, relative value and portfolio appetite
  • Manage quarterly Net Investment income review and coordinate with CIM finance to incorporate feedback


Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in a related subject
  • CFA or FSA/ASA required. CPA,MBA or other advanced financial designation a plus
  • Minimum of ten years of investment experience
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, intellectual curiosity, sense of urgency, flexibility, organizational agility and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced understanding of pension and insurance investing concepts including ALM, LDI, RBC, regulatory requirements
  • Advanced understanding of investment accounting principles and their impact on portfolio management across multiple relevant accounting frameworks such as insurance regulatory, US GAAP, IFRS and tax accounting
  • Ability to accommodate limited travel (up to 10%)
  • Flexibility to participate in calls after normal business hours with international customers
  • This position is located at our corporate headquarters in Bloomfield, CT with a hybrid in-office/work from home arrangement

The successful candidate will become an Access Person of CII required to comply with the personal trading requirements and restrictions contained in CII's Code of Ethics. These requirements and restrictions apply to the Access Person and all securities transactions in accounts in which an Access Person has a Beneficial Interest.
