American National is seeking a Director & Actuary of P&C Reserving. This position is a key member of the team responsible for analyzing all P&C entities' reserve adequacy. Additional responsibilities will include administration of the P&C reinsurance program and assisting in financial forecasting.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete analyses and produce documentation required for annual reserve opinions.
  • Coordinate the production of Schedule P and related reserve run-off exhibits.
  • Assist in developing and directing the professional actuarial staff, ensuring they can perform to expected levels of performance, including training on current actuarial methodologies and standard industry practices.
  • Support key aspects of the unearned premium and loss reserving process, including catastrophe and non-catastrophe loss reserves, and providing analytical support to management in the evaluation of results.
  • Support the P&C reinsurance program administration which includes estimating catastrophe IBNR, reinsurance recoveries, and reinsurance premiums; participating in data calls on an as-needed basis.
  • Develop and refine methodologies and processes and support the presentation of such efforts to executive management.
  • Support aspects of the budgeting and forecasting process, including forecasted premium and losses for each line of business across the enterprise, and providing analytical support to management in the evaluation of results.
  • Provide business partner and analytical support to P&C Operations and Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Assist Finance and other actuarial departments with special projects on an as-needed basis.

Required Qualifications:
  • ACAS or FCAS (preferred) with satisfactory maintenance of relevant actuarial Continuing Education requirements.
  • A college degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field, or the equivalent, is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years actuarial experience including 5 years in a reserving role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and Word. Knowledge of SQL, power query, and/or loss reserve software is a plus.

  • Thorough understanding of and ability to apply and communicate actuarial principles is essential.
  • Leadership qualities, including an interest in future leadership opportunities.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage several projects at the same time.
  • Self-motivated and attentive to details.
  • Ability to anticipate questions and issues that may arise.


Salary for this position can range from $119,359 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $179.029 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
