Position description

The Director & Actuary will be a leader of a team providing pricing, product development, and actuarial support for the Institutional Markets line of business. The primary focus will be on the pricing and management of Structured Settlement ("SS) and Guaranteed Investment Contracts ("GICs"). The actuary will work closely with business unit management and other functional areas such as underwriting, sales, finance, valuation, operations, Enterprise Risk Management ("ERM"), investments, legal, and compliance. They will manage at least two individuals.

Responsibilities
  • Lead pricing of SS and GIC products
  • Maintain and continue to enhance experience analysis, pricing, and corresponding documentation. This entails monitoring company and industry experience, recommending, documenting, and implementing pricing updates and methodology improvements
  • Communicate pricing, proposals, and analysis to management
  • Maintain, document, and continue to enhance actuarial pricing models
  • Work with other areas including underwriting, valuation, and IT to implement proposed changes
  • Work with investments to monitor and optimize investment portfolios supporting the products
  • Support other actuarial product management/maintenance initiatives as required. This includes monitoring the competitive landscape, identifying risks and opportunities in the product portfolio, and collaborating on corresponding solutions
  • Manage and work within a team that operates across multiple geographic locations


Position requirements
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries ("FSA")
  • 8+ years of experience in Actuarial, Risk, Finance, or related field, with 3+ years of experience post-FSA.
  • Prior experience with pricing, product development, and actuarial modeling
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong management, leadership, and collaboration skills
  • Strong mathematical, problem solving, and analytical skills. Detail oriented with attention to documentation
  • Self-motivated with independent judgement and proactive problem solving

For positions based in Los Angeles, California,, the base salary range is $130,000 - $172,000. For positions based in New York, New York the base salary range is $115,000 - $170,000.
