For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for business or product level reserve estimates and final forecasts
- Accountable for end-to-end reserve and forecast model assumptions, estimates, and outputs
- Communicate reserving and forecasting results to senior management and provide explanations for unexpected changes
- Initiate and direct staff on ad hoc investigations and analyses as well as communication to external partners
- Own reserving and forecasting team strategy around reporting, modeling, and data management
- Draw conclusions from close & forecast results and create connections with business-wide initiatives
- Assist with non-standard requests, ad hoc questions, and review of model outputs
- Analyze and interpret the key drivers of health care trends
- Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
- Design and run complex data programs as you perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
- Collaborate across Actuarial and HCE team and other departments at OptumHealth
- Serve as key resource on complex and/or critical issues

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries)
- 6+ years of professional actuarial experience
- Experience working in the healthcare industry
- Experience in claims reserving and/or forecasting
- Staff management experience
- Proven excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency with databases: SQL (Structured Query Language), SAS (Statistical Analysis System), or Microsoft Access
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
- FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
- 8+ years of actuarial experience
- 2+ years of staff management experience
- Experience in Medicare Advantage
- Experience in multiple actuarial functions (e.g. reserving, forecasting, pricing, trend analytics, network, risk adjustment)
- Advanced proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $132,200 to $226,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
