WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?

This role is designed to be a rotation within The Hartford's Actuarial Student Program. You will get hands-on experience working as a Data Scientist within Group Benefits. Together with our team, you will help support a variety of Group Benefits functions including Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, Operations, and Sales. You will work in conjunction with our Data Engineers and Asset Owners to utilize data and analytical techniques to advance the company’s work. Our team’s focus is to build out solutions from idea to implementation that enable Group Benefits’ business strategy execution. To do this, you will utilize predictive modeling techniques, machine learning capabilities, data analytics, and more.

  • Own, design and development of modeling solutions using Python, R, and SQL
  • Aid implementation of solutions by writing and executing modular Python code
  • Collaborate with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Asset Owners to see projects to completion
  • Effectively communicate results to stakeholders and customers

The Hartford's Actuarial Student Program provides the incredible support of a large student community pursuing either the CAS or SOA tracks. Generous study time and materials along with structured rotations every 18- 24 months ensures students are developing into well rounded actuaries.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION?

  • At least two+ years of actuarial experience, pursuing actuarial exams with either the CAS or SOA.
  • Communication skills – translates technical concepts for decision-making to technical and non-technical audiences alike
  • Project management skills – manages time efficiently, sets and meets deadlines, vocalizes risks or issues, documents work
  • Critical thinking skills – understands business problems, comes up with and executes on technical solutions to meet their needs
  • Collaborative – works successfully and respectfully as part of a team environment
  • Innovative – seeks creative solutions to business partners’ problems
  • Programming (Python/R), GLM, regression experience preferred
  • Experience with/knowledge of the GB business preferred
  • Education and/or experience in actuarial science, data science, statistics related fields preferred

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$80,000 - $117,000
