Responsibilities
The Financial Actuary Senior Director is an individual contributor responsible for providing actuarial support and guidance to the company's Finance, Accounting, and Financial Planning and Analysis teams. This position serves as a liaison and lead analyst that analyzes financial data, models risk, provides financial estimates and forecasts the financial performance of Value Based Care contracts. This individual will routinely interact and collaborate with senior leaders from our executive, actuarial, finance and operational departments to develop assumptions and provide financial insights that support financial and operational decisions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses Excel, SQL, Python, or R to create and maintain processes used to estimate IBNR and best estimates of Value Based Care contract settlement accruals.
- Leverage relationship with external software vendors and actuarial consultants to complete monthly financial close tasks on a timely basis.
- Monitor and report on the accuracy of monthly estimates supplied by external software vendors and actuarial consultants.
- Closely track, monitor, and report health plan partner reporting on contract settlement accruals and operating fund reports.
- Lead the design, reporting and communication of monthly financial estimates and related analyses, including variance analysis, to support timely financial close.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process, development of long-term financial estimates, and provide insights to support financial decisions.
- Collaborate with clinical, actuarial and finance teams to evaluate, apply and sensitivity test the impact of quality, engagement, and affordability outcomes on current and future results.
- Maintain deep comprehension of Value Based Care contracts and related benchmarking and baselining approaches.
- Complete retrospective actual to expected analysis of accrual estimates and the methods used to derive those estimates.
- Work closely with the Chief Actuary Officer and Chief Financial Officer to develop and maintain executive and board-level reporting on financial performance.

Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- An Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the health care industry
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, statistics, or a related field
- Experience with CMS MSSP/ACO REACH programs and Medicare Advantage Value Based Care contracts.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form to a widely diverse audience, including C-Suite Executives, specifically in the presentation of actuarial methods, assumptions, confidence intervals and sensitivity analysis.
- Strong organizational, analytical, multi-tasking, documentation, presentation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with staff to identify relationships in data sets, determine key fields, and present finding unassisted.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience with CMS CCLF, BCDA (Beneficiary Claims Data App) and VRDC (Virtual Research Data Center) data.
- Experience working at or with health care providers taking downstream risk.
