Job Summary:

Leads pricing and rate adequacy work for Specialty lines by creating and/or overseeing the creation of tools to increase pricing capabilities and the ability to measure rate adequacy to ensure long term portfolio management and profitability of Specialty. The role requires working across the MKL insurance platforms to leverage information and best practices. As a newly created role it requires a strategic mindset and creativity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage an inventory of pricing capabilities and tools across the Specialty Lines portfolio of products; to include:
    • Overall rate need
    • Pricing sophistication/segmentation analysis to include multivariate modeling where appropriate.
    • Analysis and impact of loss and premium trends
    • Measurement of non-pricing changes on future profitability
  • Determine priority, set strategy and provide oversight for pricing model creation, implementation and ongoing management of the tools.
  • Close collaboration with various parts of the organization:
    • Specialty CUO EUOs and Product Leaders;
    • MINT – learn from their work and import wherever possible;
    • Actuarial-  for lines of business where they will build tools;
    • Claims
    • Global EUOs and enterprise risk management;
    • PRS;
    • IT and operations 
  • Lead and manage the creation and dissemination of pricing and rate adequacy information to EUOs and Product leaders to ensure underwriting strategies are sound.
  • Determine and utilize best sources of third-party data for profitability.
  • Communication with senior leaders to provide accurate and timely information which enhances portfolio management
  • Work with risk management underwriters for pricing on individual risks

Required Skills and Competencies:           

  • Strong analytical skills with deep expertise in pricing and rate adequacy; ability to build pricing models and tracking tools; expertise in Excel and modeling tools
  • Strong communication skills with track record of communicating at various levels of the organization
  • Excellent collaboration skills and an ability to build relationships internally and externally
  • Knowledge of Specialty lines of business and systems
  • Entrepreneurial with demonstrated track record of identifying opportunities and/or gaps and creating solutions
  • Highly organized and ability to work independently
  • Takes risks using data and analytical thinking to make decisions
  • Passion for learning and not afraid of short-term failure using it to learn and further advance the business

Salary range: $174k to $210k

The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
