Closer to consulting than a reserving cycle role because client advice, communication, and cross-selling sit alongside the technical work.
Senior Health actuarial consulting role in Syracuse, New York, supporting mid-to-large clients with retiree health and other Health & Welfare programs. You’ll perform GASB 75 and ASC 715-60 valuations, develop rates and reserves, assess plan designs, advise on compliance, and communicate results directly to clients. The role requires at least eight years of experience and ASA or FSA credentials.
Requirements
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics or related field
- Minimum 8 years of actuarial experience
Strongly preferred
- ASA or FSA credentials
- GASB 75 retiree health valuation experience
- Knowledge of Health & Welfare plan design, pricing strategies, and competitive market practices
- Perform actuarial valuations per ASC 715-60, GASB 75, and Statutory accounting
- Analyze financial implications of active and retiree health benefits programs
- Develop active and retiree-specific premium equivalent rates for budgeting and COBRA administration
- Develop claims reserves for self-insured plans
- Advise clients regarding state and federal statutory, regulatory, and other compliance related issues
- Utilize valuation software and programming as well as Microsoft Office suite
- Interface with clients and communicate results both verbally and in writing
- Project management experience and ability to train, mentor, and review work of entry level analysts
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem solving skills
