As the Lead Risk Actuary - Variable Annuity Risk (ERM) you will provide risk oversight coverage of multiple aspects associated with the Variable Annuity & Structured Variable Annuity products offered on the Corebridge's Individual Retirement platform. The position offers a unique top of the house view of the business which includes but is not limited to the risk oversight of hedging, product development, pricing, GAAP / Statutory valuation, capital management, Asset Liability Management ("ALM"), and stress testing. You will also be responsible for an ongoing interaction, with elements of review and challenge, with multiple groups across the firm that includes but is not limited to ERM, Hedging, Product Development and Pricing, Valuation, Capital Management, Finance, ALM, Investments.

About the role:
  • Provide ongoing oversight of the Variable Annuity Hedging program, with a focus on identifying areas of risk and collaboration with the Hedging team on how to best address items of interest
  • Periodic deep dive reviews of select areas of interest and new material developments associated with Hedging infrastructure, including review of stochastic models, proposed changes in line up of permitted derivative instruments, enhancements to the Hedging strategy and tactical implementation of the strategy
  • Ongoing participation in product design process with a focus on identifying areas of design risk and collaboration with the Product Development team on how to best address items of interest
  • Ongoing interaction with the Pricing teams and Pricing Oversight team on reasonableness of pricing of new products and assessment of associated profitability
  • Interactions with GAAP and Statutory valuation teams on aspects related to changes in reserves, as well as engagement of these teams during reviews of associated methodologies and assumptions
  • Ongoing interactions with ALM and Investments teams, including reviews of changes in ALM risk profile and potential changes in investment strategies
  • Interactions with the Finance team, including reviews of budget and stress testing projections
  • Collaboration with Central ERM colleagues on ongoing initiatives related to developments of enhancements to the Internal Capital framework, and participation in preparation and review of Internal Capital projections associated with the hedging program
  • Collaboration with ERM and controls partners across the firm on ongoing initiatives related to developments of enhancements to risk and controls framework
  • Assisting in implementing and enhancing risk governance structure that will effectively support timely and informed decisions
  • Assisting with designing and implementing frameworks to ensure that all risks are properly identified, measured and reported, and that available information is leveraged by the business for purposes of making decisions
  • Analysis of internal risk events, including conducting root cause analysis and helping with enhancing controls to protect the business from similar occurrences in the future


What we are looking for
  • 7+ years of applicable experience within the financial industry, with a working knowledge of financial engineering and key principles of hedging
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, physics, economics, financial engineering, or related technical fields is required. Graduate degree is preferred.
  • Self-starter personality
  • Ability to maintain an independent viewpoint and flexibility in adjusting the view in order to adopt to changing circumstances and evolving facts
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical topics to various audiences both in writing and in person
  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships across the organization
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Variable Annuity product designs
  • Working knowledge of hedging principles
  • Working knowledge of, or a prior experience with pricing of annuity products
  • Familiarity with GAAP and Statutory valuation principles related to Variable Annuities
  • Working knowledge of derivatives valuation
  • Working knowledge of valuation of various asset classes
  • Working knowledge of ALM principles
  • Familiarity with stress testing and capital management frameworks is preferred
  • Working knowledge and fluency in at least one programming language (e.g. MATLAB, R, Python, C / C++, Visual Basic, etc.)

For positions based in Woodland Hills, California, the base salary range is $110,000-$160,000. For positions based in New York, NY, the base salary range is $125,000-$165,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
