Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking an actuarial student or candidate who is pursuing their ACAS to join Sompo International’s North America Reserving team. The successful candidate will support the main quarterly reserving process and setting of the Actuarial Central Estimates. The Reserving Analyst will report to a Senior Reserving actuary. The North America Reserving team supports all insurance lines written in the region including developing businesses in Mexico and Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of the actuarial central estimate indications across multiple liability and property lines. The group is responsible for a broad cross section of insurance lines, including D&O, Primary and Excess Casualty, Workers Comp, Ocean Marine, and Surety, among others.

  • Provide support in producing materials for the Sompo International Group Loss Reserve committee and business unit leaders regarding reserve selections, movements during the quarter, ACE indications, and emerging trends and risks.

  • Liaise with corporate actuarial team on data reporting and analytics issues.

  • Perform reviews of reserving parameters. This will include regular updates to IELRs and emergence patterns as well as more in-depth reviews of line of business trends and claim dynamics.

  • Develop relationships with Actuarial Pricing, Risk, Claims, Finance, and Financial Planning & Analysis and leverage these relationships to enhance an understanding of Sompo International’s business and processes.

  • Support other special projects as required by the business

Skills, Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Actuarial student or candidate pursuing ACAS with three to five years of P&C actuarial experience preferred.

  • Reserving background helpful but not necessary.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills, including a proven ability to build relationships with senior management and underwriting teams and to communicate to senior management and board level audience.

  • The candidate must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines without compromising quality.

  • Experience with PowerBI, SQL or other programming languages, Visual Basic, ResQ, and MS Office Products preferred.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
