Job Description

SompoRe is seeking a Pricing Actuary to join our Reinsurance Actuarial Pricing Team in Zurich. The Position will work closely with the reinsurance pricing actuaries as well as the underwriters.

The position reports to SVP, Head of Pricing, International Reinsurance and our preferred location is in our Zurich Office.  The position will be based in the office.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform the pricing of reinsurance treaties for our main lines of business property, casualty, marine & energy, aviation, credit & surety. This includes:
  • Understanding and preparing client specific data for the pricing process and system.
  • Discussing requests with the underwriter to understand client demand and form a view of the risk.
  • Applying actuarial techniques to derive pricing metrics and analyse year-on-year changes.
  • Documenting methodologies used and results found.
  • Communicating and explaining pricing results to the underwriter and other stakeholder.
• Collaborate closely with the underwriting team, including attending and travelling to client/broker meetings and representing Sompo in a professional manner.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of our actuarial systems with conceptual inputs and or hands-on-programming.
• Provide analysis of actuarial model parameters such as exposure curves and trends.
• Training and educating interns in reinsurance pricing, terms and market practice.
• Various other actuarial projects as per demand (e.g., market studies, profitability analysis).

Desired Skills & Experience

• Strong mathematical background, master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or equivalent.
• Willingness to follow education for actuarial qualification with a recognised actuarial society.
• Strong analytical mind-set with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think independently.
• Very good communication skills (verbal and written), including ability to interact and collaborate with underwriters/clients using non-actuarial language.
• Fluent in English. Fluency in at least one other language, with Spanish, Italian or German being a plus.
• Strong knowledge of Excel required. Programming skills in C#, SQL and Visual Basic are a plus.
• Ability to manage workflow and meet deadlines.
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours during main reinsurance renewals.
