We are looking for an individual who has both an ability to perform and an excellence of character. Our culture is creative and fast paced, and this position will be the perfect fit for an individual who is intellectually curious, self-motivated and a collaborative team member.

This hands-on role will provide exposure to a wide variety of retail and commercial product lines and pricing techniques, reporting directly to the Chief Actuary. Your role will involve close collaboration with stakeholders across Actuarial, Underwriting and Claims teams to create, improve and maintain pricing tools across various product lines.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proactive and regular monitoring of profitability, business mix, claims trends and rates based on data from the rating tools and/or external sources.
  • Recalibration of existing pricing models, by analysing external or internal claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.
  • Collaborate with other departments and other regions on the development and maintenance of actuarial pricing tools as the company continues to grow and evolve.
  • Price individual large accounts and effectively communicate performance insights to underwriters.
  • Provide technical support to underwriters on rating tools.
  • Present complex actuarial concepts and findings to non-actuarial stakeholders.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in actuarial studies, mathematics, statistics or a related field.
  • Progression towards or completion of FIAA or equivalent qualification.
  • 3 – 10 years of experience in an actuarial pricing role.
  • Proficiency in VBA, SQL and/or R.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with clarity, impact and influence.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates.
  • Effective time management, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.

BHSI Offers:

  • A competitive package, including study support, and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates.
  • A dynamic, action oriented, and thoughtful environment centred on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates and our other stakeholders.
  • A purposely non-bureaucratic organisation that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasises individual excellence in a team framework.

NOTE: Compensation will be commensurate with experience. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Team Member may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organisation.
