Client-facing benefits consultant
Closer to a client-facing consulting leadership role than an internal modelling role because senior advice, negotiations, and relationship growth define the position.
Principal-level Health actuarial and benefits consulting role in New York, covering employer medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, and disability plans. You will lead complex client engagements, advise senior stakeholders on funding and plan design, oversee financial models and renewals, and support carrier negotiations and business development. The role is hybrid, with at least three days per week in the office or onsite with clients.
Requirements
Strongly preferred
- BA/BS degree in actuarial science, math, statistics, finance, economics, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in health and benefits consulting and/or actuarial work
- Demonstrated experience leading client engagements for complex health care benefit plans
- Progress toward ASA designation
- Strong client-facing experience and confidence advising senior stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Nice to have
- Experience combining health & benefits consulting with actuarial leadership
- Strong understanding of employer health plan strategy, renewals, funding, and plan design
- Proven ability to lead large, complex projects and influence client decisions
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to mentor others while maintaining high standards for client delivery
