About the Role:
The Senior Actuarial Data Analyst position reports to the Senior Business Data Analyst and can be based out of our home office in Topeka, Kansas, our Overland Park, Kansas office or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.
  • Lead the data requirements, development, support, and maintenance of the Actuarial team's data needs to accurately provide financial data for the team's needs.


  • Collaborate with Actuaries to build and improve on the availability, integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data logging and data pipelines.


  • This position is also responsible for assisting with Product Governance and working with key stakeholders to ensure product information is captured correctly for the Enterprise.


  • This role involves consistent collaboration and communication with the Data Office and other IT areas and will provide updates to Actuarial Department and leadership on the status/progress of key issues.


  • Lead use case designs and assist with improving existing data processes to expand the scope of the data program in support of the Actuarial Department.


  • In collaboration with the Actuarial Modeling team, test new requirements, fields, and assist in validating data for new models.


  • Work cross functionally to ensure that data processes are aligned with industry best practices and stakeholder needs.
  • Assist with planning for future data updates, indicators, etc. and share/gain feedback from the rest of the department.


  • Automate current Actuarial processes, including but not limited to Reserves, Trend, Forecasting, and Pricing.


  • Regularly monitor issues surrounding Actuarial data and processes, making sure solutions continue to work and are well documented.


  • Ensure a state of audit readiness and effectively communicate internally and externally any database issues and how that can impact business processes.


  • Support activities with respect to data integration & preparation.


What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience with data management, programming, or analytics, preferably in insurance or related field; prefers 5+ years of data reporting experience.
  • 3+ years of Actuarial data experience required
  • Knowledge of data analysis, Actuarial principles, and understanding interdependencies among data required
  • Ability to work with business end-users within Actuarial and Finance, Business Analysts and all levels of the organization including senior leadership.
  • Gather requirements, apply strong analysis and design skills to build product and system specifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with laws and regulations that are applicable to the job function.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with company policies and procedures that are applicable to the job function.
  • Willing to take a lead role in projects and initiate process change/improvement.

Preferred:
  • Experience in Retirement Market, including Life Insurance and Annuities, is highly beneficial and preferred
  • Strong Database, architectural, and Data Management experience across multiple technologies, including SQL-Based databases (e.g., Snowflake, Microsoft, Oracle, RedShift).
  • Experience with SQLServer, Snowflake and AWS.
  • Experience with Data Integration technologies and methodologies is beneficial.
  • Experience with Cloud-based technologies, preferably AWS.
