Role & Team:

The Portfolio Analytics team consists of four members and is responsible for delivering technical outputs that drive decision making for the underwriting organization. At the heart of our underwriting management team, the team works across all lines of business, geographies and distributions. The team provides high quality analysis and insights that improve underwriting, shape the performance of the business and deliver profitable growth.

The primary functions of this role will be to deliver recommendations based on technical analysis, develop tools to monitor and understand performance, and support portfolio management through underwriting reporting. This is an ideal role for an individual who is passionate about the use of analytics to influence decision making and can conceptualize new ways of solving problems. The role will need to communicate technical concepts simply and effectively to stakeholders and see them all the way through to implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver actionable insights to underwriting leadership through clear and concise summaries and outputs
  • Conducts complex analysis, summarizes and presents findings to underwriting leadership to drive performance improvement with an emphasis on improving profitability
  • Design, build and productionize underwriting assets and visualization tools that deliver underwriting insights and facilitate improved self-service capabilities
  • Develop data processes including understanding data structures and creating / productizing SQL queries
  • Facilitate conversations with senior leadership, drive consensus, and interpret business needs into actions which will drive profitability
  • Understand, communicate, and apply technical techniques that are based on actuarial best practices
  • Deliver timely reporting to senior stakeholders as part of a robust portfolio management approach

person specification:

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of experience in analytical roles relating to P&C insurance
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in SQL
  • Extensive experience with pulling raw data and turning it into actionable insight
  • Excellent strategic and analytical toolset with strong project management, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with an ability to distil insights concisely
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts
  • Strong background in producing effective PowerPoint presentations
  • Proactive nature and ability to get things done when faced with new tasks and uncertainty around final outputs
  • Mental agility and adaptability to changing circumstances
  • Understanding of actuarial concepts and methodologies

Preferred

  • Experience using Tableau including building dashboards

Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.
