This position will be based in Philadelphia and support the Corporate Actuarial Group, a team under the overall direction of the North American Chief Actuary. Responsibilities will principally focus on assisting with department modernization initiatives (dissemination and use of information for various indicators and monitors), rate monitoring, rate filing support and financial planning.

Many tasks will be performed on a recurring basis, either monthly, quarterly or annually, and often have tight completion timelines. Other tasks will require research and development and may have project timelines that span months. There will also be ad hoc requests by management that are of an immediate nature. At any time multiple projects may be ongoing, so the ability to shift focus quickly from one project to another is necessary.

Responsibilities will include:

Coordination with the Transformation Officer to assist with various actuarial department initiatives, including leadership responsibility for certain work streams;
  • Assistance in the development of a rate need / profitability study monthly roll forward for North America senior management
  • Assistance in the creation and design of a new modern price monitor dashboard for North America senior management
  • Assistance in the creation and design of new planning exhibits for North America senior management
  • Assisting and directing actuarial students in the preparation of various rate filings and insurance department data calls;
  • Responding to periodic requests by producing ad hoc analyses and reports; and
  • Contributing to the improvement, creation, and/or implementation of processes to expand capabilities, improve efficiency, and enhance effectiveness.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of four (4) years of actuarial experience;
  • Strong communication skills; ability to communicate with management, finance, regulators and other actuaries;
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar technical discipline;
  • ACAS/FCAS preferred ;
  • Ability to quickly learn or proficient in each of the following: R, Microsoft Excel (VBA), SQL, TM1
  • Experience in other MS Office applications, including Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Detail- oriented;
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications of analyses, results, and work products to both actuarial and non-actuarial customers; and
  • Should be well-organized and able to maintain good documentation and record keeping.
