Job Title: Sr Director and Chief Actuary

Reports To: VP and General Manager - Insurance Division

Job Summary:

Are you a visionary leader with a passion for leveraging advanced analytics to drive business success? We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Chief Actuary to join our team! In this senior executive role, you will lead our actuarial functions with a focus on machine learning, pricing, modeling, and reserving. You will have the opportunity to shape our pricing strategies, develop cutting-edge predictive models, and ensure the financial stability of our company.

As the Chief Actuary, you will work closely with a talented team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation. Your insights and expertise will be critical in optimizing our financial performance and managing risks effectively. What you will do as Senior Director, Chief Actuary:

  • Team Leadership and Management: Lead and mentor a highly performing actuarial team of 10 or more individuals that is aligned with our company values, setting goals, accountability structures, and professional development plans. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning. Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary skills and resources to excel in machine learning, pricing, modeling, IBNR, and reserving.


  • Actuary Expertise and Analysis: Lead Porch's Actuarial function with an emphasis on predictive modeling and risk assessment, using analytical skills to problem solve complex problems and provide data to make informed strategic decisions. Conduct and review actuarial analyses to support business decisions, financial planning, and regulatory compliance. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of actuarial models and methodologies.


  • Machine Learning and Predictive Modeling: Develop and implement advanced machine learning models to predict customer behavior, assess risk, and optimize pricing strategies. Stay abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and data science to continuously improve actuarial practices.


  • Pricing Strategy: Oversee the development and refinement of pricing models to ensure competitive and profitable pricing of insurance products. Utilize data analytics and machine learning techniques to identify trends, assess risk, and inform pricing decisions.


  • IBNR and Reserving: Oversee the calculation and management of IBNR reserves and other reserving practices to ensure the company maintains adequate reserves. Develop methodologies to accurately estimate IBNR and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.


  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and manage risks related to insurance products, investments, and other financial activities. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies using advanced analytical techniques.


  • Financial Reporting: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of actuarial inputs in financial statements, regulatory filings, and other reports. Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to provide actuarial insights and support.


  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure the company's actuarial practices comply with relevant laws and regulations. Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent the company in actuarial matters.


  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate complex actuarial concepts and findings to non-actuarial stakeholders, including senior management, board members, and external partners. Provide clear and concise reports and presentations.


What you will bring as Senior Director, Chief Actuary:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced degree (e.g., Master's, PhD) preferred.


  • Professional Certification: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent professional designation.


  • Experience: 15+ years of actuarial experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in machine learning, pricing, predictive modeling, IBNR, and reserving is highly desirable.


  • Leadership: Experience developing high-impact teams and leaders who have transformative impact to organization and material impact on strategic goals of company.


  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in machine learning algorithms and data science tools, excellent communication and presentation abilities, and experience with actuarial software and tools. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams effectively. Proven ability to manage risk while enabling business growth.

What You Will Get As A Porch Group Team Member

Pay Range*: $198,800 - $278,300

*Please know your actual pay at Porch will reflect a number of factors among which are your work experience and skillsets, job-related knowledge, alignment with market and our Porch employees, as well as your geographic location.

Additionally, you will be eligible to receive long-term incentive awards, subject to program guidelines and approvals.

You will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, subject to program guidelines and approvals
