PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Senior Actuarial Analyst provides advanced actuarial support for defined-benefit pension plans-primarily large public-sector systems, with some corporate plans. The Senior Actuarial Analyst produces valuations, compliance deliverables, benefit calculations, and decision-ready analysis that help plan sponsors meet funding, regulatory, and participant-service obligations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actuarial Valuations
Collect, validate, and reconcile participant data.
Run valuations in proprietary or commercial actuarial software.
Summarize results and highlight key funding, cost, and demographic trends for review by the lead actuary. - Participant Calculations & Certifications
Compute accrued, projected, and optional-form benefits, including Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) and QDRO amounts.
Prepare benefit certification packages and individual statements in accordance with plan documents and current regulations - Regulatory & Compliance Deliverables
Draft and file Form 5500, PBGC premium filings, Form 8955-SSA, and other required government forms.
Perform annual compliance testing - Reporting & Communication
Draft valuation reports, funding exhibits, participant notices, and ad-hoc memos that translate technical results into clear, sponsor-ready language.
Present findings to consulting actuaries and, when requested, directly to plan sponsors or trustees. - Plans & Special Projects
Support plan implementations, amendments, and terminations, including data conversion, liability estimates, and settlement calculations.
Assist with experience studies, assumption reviews, and risk-transfer analyses. - Quality Control & Mentoring
Review calculations and reports prepared by peers for accuracy and consistency.
Coach junior analysts on actuarial techniques, software use, and best-practice documentation.
Requirements
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn different software platforms and applications.
- Ability to maintain data entry accuracy while multitasking and focusing on meeting deadlines.
- Conveys a professional and positive attitude while interacting with vendors, clients and internal team members.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree required
- 15+ years of experience related to defined benefit actuarial/plan administration services required
- Proficient with ProVal actuarial valuation software required
- Familiarity with OPEB plans preferred

- Accustomed to using Microsoft Teams (or similar virtual-meeting applications) to meet with colleagues regularly on video and use the chat feature for quick communications. We utilize many Microsoft Teams features (such as Channels and file storage) for announcements, relevant conversations, and file sharing. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams is a plus
- Accustomed with file-storage and file-sharing tools such as Microsoft SharePoint
