Job Description Summary

As the Sr Director of Pricing Analytics & Actuarial Services for P&C, you'll work across the P&C business to establish and maintain the associated actuarial governance necessary to ensure best practices are upheld and continuously improved. You'll develop long-term return and pricing targets at an appropriate level of granularity, design best practices in partnership with the pricing teams, and deliver analytical capabilities to pricing teams to support their role in portfolio management.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partners with other Actuarial Leaders and Executives to develop and maintain a pricing governance framework, including ensuring the process results in appropriate and timely implementation of pricing actions. Partners closely with process owners to ensure the appropriate capabilities are in place to produce desired outcomes.
  • Develops and continuously enhances pricing best practices, in partnership with pricing leaders and teams, including performing P&C wide pricing analyses where appropriate. Drives alignment of terms, definitions, processes, and analytical assumptions across P&C pricing.
  • In partnership with the VP, Actuarial and Risk Practice leader, designs and executes the holistic risk management program to measure, monitor, and manage financial P&C risks within the scope of the P&C Risk Committee and delegated committees.
  • Leads the team responsible for ensuring the target return framework is suitable and desired return levels are achieved. Manages and updates framework to inform and influence pricing strategy and outcomes. Owns model development, maintenance, and output relative to Permissible Loss Ratio (PLR), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Target Returns.
  • Builds partnerships with Enterprise Risk and Capital Modeling (ERCM) to support risk and capital management initiatives and provide insights on capital topics to the P&C business and finance areas.
  • May design, develop, and continuously improve actuarial capabilities prioritized for central delivery, in partnership with appropriate teams depending on the capability, such as Pricing or the Finance Transformation Office.
  • Completes performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, hiring and placement and corrective actions for associates when required.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, Actuarial and Risk Practice - Property & Casualty with dotted line reporting relationships with the VP, Pricing leaders. Leads a team of 4 or more direct reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, math, statistics, or related field.

License/Certification/Designation: Fellow or Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society preferred.

Experience: Typically, ten or more years of related industry experience and five years of people leadership experience. Proven experience in managing change, influencing broadly, and navigating complex organizations.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of pricing processes underlying a wide variety of P&C products. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and influence to achieve goals. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build and defend a business case. Change-readiness and design thinking skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and HR Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for Sr Director, Pricing Analytics & Actuarial Services - Property & Casualty : 132,000.00-260,000.00
