Job Description

Job Summary

The role will bring actuarial leadership to US reserving, delivering US actuarial valuation reporting and analysis across a number of reserving bases. The roleholder will be required to be a thought leader for actuarial and other strategic topics across SCOR US L&H.

A key immediate focus of the role will be to build a high-performing, expert and efficient US reserving team who deliver quality timely analytics and business insights to support the delivery of the Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities

Main Scope
  • Lead all SCOR US Life actuarial valuation reporting and analysis for US Statutory, US GAAP, IFRS17 and Solvency II
  • Manage model and assumption change activity, including robust forward planning of reserving impacts across all reporting bases/metrics and coordination with relevant stakeholders on these highly strategic topics
  • Own the development of the US Prophet modelling framework and optimize Prophet utilization for actuarial and finance functions
  • Ensure that appropriate and auditable controls, reconciliations and documentation are maintained with respect to all valuation and projection processes
  • Deliver on T&S initiatives to optimize, simplify and transform US L&H reserving processes and governance
  • Coordinate closely with Group actuarial teams
  • Manage appointed actuaries
  • Management of external audits and relationships with local auditors in relation to US actuarial topics
  • Provide reserving support to US Inforce Management team as needed
  • Develop and improve feedback loop between US Reserving, US Pricing and In-force teams
  • Provide expertise on new developments in reserving topics, methods and regulations
  • Present on US reserving topics to senior leadership, including COMEX, as required

Strategic Leadership
  • Lead a team of 25+ actuaries, identifying and developing key talent within the team at all levels and providing suitable opportunities for growth of team members.
  • Support delivery of the Strategic Plan across Finance and US L&H by delivering insightful thought leadership on actuarial topics across SCOR US L&H.
  • Lead strategic approach to develop reserving talent pool across L&H reserving worldwide, with initial focus on US reserving.
  • Work on special assignments and projects as needed.


Qualifications

Required experience & competencies
  • FSA designation (or equivalent)
  • 15+ years' experience with financial valuation and modeling
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the senior stakeholders across SCOR on broad business issues and complex strategic topics.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to make strategic decisions. Demonstrated ability to understand broader picture and impact of decisions.
  • Experience managing projects and effectively representing Reserving in discussions with stakeholders
  • Strong organizational & planning skills with ability to meet multiple competing deliverables and manage projects
  • Demonstrated ability to build and transform processes to ensure appropriate control framework is in place within an efficient process.
  • Experience mentoring and developing talent within the team
  • Excellent technical skills, including ability to understand complex models and perform valuation, modeling and analysis to deliver required results. Expertise in IFRS 17, Solvency II, US Statutory, and US GAAP preferred.
  • PROPHET expertise is a plus
