The Analytics & Data Science focused Vice President, Actuary is responsible for developing, analyzing, and maintaining the rates and pricing model(s) for the North America Small Commercial Insurance division’s Commercial Auto and Workers Compensation lines.

This role reports to SVP, lead actuary of Chubb Small Commercial and will have significant exposure to Division leadership. This role can be based in Jersey City, NJ, Whitehouse Station, NJ, or Philadelphia, PA. Fully remote will be considered for strong candidates.


Responsibilities:

Pricing, Modeling & Implementation
1.Build and review predictive pricing models across Small Commercial’s product lines with a focus on casualty lines (commercial auto and workers compensation)
2.Oversee rating modeling initiatives and manage cross-functional teams/pods including actuaries, data scientists, data analysts/engineers via an Agile culture and delivery model
3.Collaborate with Global Analytics colleagues to develop pricing modeling capabilities and set up regular and rigorous model refresh process
4.Develop non-pricing models including but not limited to pricing elasticity, demand forecast and etc
5.Develop NLP models for claims analytics including coverage/peril/cause of loss categorization
6.Lead rating implementation and governance process in externalized rating platforms and lead actuarial production support for existing rating implementations
7.Create and maintain comprehensive unit and regression test scenarios for rating implementations

Data & Reporting
1.Foster data integrity, quantitative discipline, and analytical rigor, including the continuous enhancement of 1st and 3rd party data used in modeling, underwriting, and monitoring  
2.Conduct deep dive into existing 1st and 3rd party data assets and identify gaps in data availability, coverage, and accuracy; Partner with the data organization to identify root cause and rectify identified deficiencies
3.Identify and evaluate new 3rd party data sources and oversee integration of 3rd party data sources into pricing modeling and underwriting
4.Develop rigorous portfolio management processes to accurately monitor pricing model performance, achieved rate changes, new business adequacy, and mix
5.Closely collaborate with Portfolio Management and Reporting functions to develop automated and real time portfolio monitoring capabilities
6.Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio governance process

Core Actuarial
1.Oversee actuarial profitability study process for casualty lines across granular coverage, class, distribution, and geographic level dimensions.
2.Participate in division financial planning through pro-forma portfolio modeling and forecasting
3.Support actuarial state filings and satisfy regulatory requirements
4.Peer review relevant Reserving and other actuarial work efforts

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated actuarial proficiency with property & casualty insurance pricing and/or reserving practices via significant prior work experience (10+ years; ACAS/FCAS), preferably in casualty lines (Commercial Auto & Workers Comp)
  • 5+ years of building & implementing Commercial Lines Pricing models
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative analysis skills
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python. Working knowledge of R
  • Working knowledge of version control through GIT
  • Strong familiarity and strategic vision for technological innovation across platforms, data, and analytics
  • Experience working in digital driven ecosystems/companies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking

  • Ability to project influence and affect outcomes
  • The pay range for the role is $128,500 to $215,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors.
