Duties:
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on the viability of reinsurance proposals by employing sound actuarial methodologies and business judgement.
  • Analyze the profitability of property and casualty treaty and facultative reinsurance opportunities covering energy, construction, environmental and other related lines of business.
  • Review, model, and analyze complex submissions within the context of applying the Division's guidelines and standards.
  • Advise on proper pricing, terms and conditions and risk factors related to the subject business for individual facultative risks and treaty portfolios.
  • Participate in Underwriting Department audits to assist in identifying ceding companies that follow sound underwriting guidelines for risk selection and pricing.
  • Enhance traditional pricing methodologies by identifying risk-based return on equity calculations using sound financial theory.
  • Maintain clear, precise, effective communication with underwriters, senior management, and external clients.
  • Evaluate enterprise risk management capital (ERM) model opining on total return swap modeling, options pricing, CAPM stock modeling, and various value at risk measures for tail event scenarios.
  • Evaluate hedging strategies for crop insurance products.
  • Evaluate emerging risks from an ERM such as environmental risks (e.g.polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS))
  • Identify and quantify operational risks as they pertain to capital adequacy.


Job Requirements:

Master's Degree in Engineering, Energy Economics, Mathematics or related field, plus skills (gained through experience, education, or training) in: model development including predictive modeling and data visualization tools; analysis and reporting of financial data; data analytics to create data-driven strategies and solutions for decision-making; quantitative methods of financial risk management including methods for determining default probabilities and company ratings, as well as measuring credit risk, tail event risk and hedging strategies; and derivatives securities including how to utilize models to price and understand options. ]
