Role type

Valuation and reporting cycle leader

Closer to a reserving and reporting cycle role than a capital strategy role, with recurring valuation and statutory deliverables driving the remit.

Director-level Health actuarial role in Bloomington, Minnesota, leading valuation, reserve analysis, financial reporting, and regulatory support for health plan products. You will oversee actuarial models and controls, support executive decisions and filings, and develop an actuarial team across a broad health insurance portfolio.

Requirements

Strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Business, or related field
  • FSA with 10+ years or ASA with 15+ years of relevant health plan experience
  • MAAA membership
  • Experience leading complex actuarial valuation, financial reporting, reserve development, trend, pricing, forecasting, or regulatory filing processes
  • Experience translating actuarial results into actionable insights for senior leaders and non-technical audiences
  • Experience managing, coaching, or directing actuarial analysts or cross-functional teams
  • Advanced actuarial judgment and ability to apply Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Excellent analytical, modeling, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Strong written, oral, and executive presentation skills
  • Strong computer and analytical tool skills including Excel and actuarial/database/statistical/reporting applications
  • Ability to work independently, use sound professional judgment, identify emerging risks, and provide leadership across divisions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams including Finance, Accounting, Underwriting, etc.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, Business, Economics, Health Policy, Data Science or related field
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, Individual, Small Group, Large Group, self-insured, or other health insurance products
  • Programming or data experience using SAS, SQL, Python, R, Access, Azure, cloud data sources, or enterprise data platforms
