Role Summary

Role type

Life and health regulatory actuary

Closer to a regulatory compliance role than a carrier pricing role because the work evaluates filings and shapes rules rather than managing an insurer's portfolio.

Senior Health actuarial role with Alaska's Division of Insurance in Juneau. You will review life and health rates, forms, and reserves; analyze insurer solvency and filings; advise the Director; and support regulatory and legislative work. The position is onsite and requires healthcare rate-filing experience, with life, annuity, disability, or long-term care experience helpful.

Requirements

Must have

  • Experience reviewing or preparing healthcare insurance rate filings

Strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or similar
  • 5 to 7 years of actuarial experience
  • Solid understanding of actuarial concepts for life and health products, including pricing, valuation, and non-forfeiture
  • At least 5 years actuarial experience with understanding of state regulatory rate filing review

Nice to have

  • Experience reviewing life, annuity, disability income, or long-term care insurance product filings
  • ASA designation or equivalent and MAAA membership
  • Proficiency in SERFF, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of insurance actuarial procedures and principles
  • Knowledge of loss reserving methodologies
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a virtual environment
