Closer to a health economics and pricing partner than a reserving cycle role, because the emphasis is on live medical cost decisions and affordability strategy rather than periodic valuation.

Senior Health Actuary role in UPMC Health Plan’s Health Economics department, based in Pittsburgh with fully remote or hybrid options. You’ll analyze healthcare claims, utilization, and medical costs; build actuarial and financial tools; develop affordability strategies; and present recommendations to leadership. The role requires an ASA or FSA and prefers about five years of progressively responsible health actuarial experience.

  • ASA certification by Society of Actuaries
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, economics o

Strongly preferred

  • 5+ years of progressively more responsible actuarial work in health insura
  • Experience with Milliman HCG data
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience with claims-based experience analysis
  • Experience with trend analysis
  • Experience with population health
  • Experience with network and reimbursement analysis
  • Experience with commercial and government health programs
  • In-depth understanding of health insurance market dynamics
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Adaptability and ability to prioritize effectively
