Position Summary
This dynamic and highly visible opportunity offers a pivotal role in advancing rating processes, portfolio management, and technical ratemaking within a collaborative MGU underwriting and actuarial environment. While the primary focus will be on supporting Commercial Primary and Excess GL pricing, the role may also extend to Cyber, Renewable Energy, D&O, and PI lines of business. The position involves working closely with cross-functional teams, including underwriting leadership and actuarial experts, and encompasses three primary areas of responsibility: 1) supporting and advancing rating tools by maintaining, improving, and leading rater implementation to optimize underwriting team production, 2) conducting in-depth research and technical analyses to refine rate plans, identify new rating variables, review ILFs, perform segmentation analysis, and explore innovative ratemaking approaches, and 3) contributing to portfolio management through rate monitoring, adequacy assessments, and strategic due diligence to foster sustainable business growth.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Gain hands-on experience with raters by supporting, updating, expanding their functionality, and enhancing overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with underwriters to ensure seamless production and accurate capture of rater data for actuarial monitoring and analysis.
  • Conduct research and ad hoc projects to review and update rate plans, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, and proposing rating innovations to enhance underwriting intelligence and profitability. Methodologies may include segmentation analysis, predictive analytics, statistical learning techniques, qualitative research, benchmarking, and more.
  • Support portfolio management and reporting initiatives, including monitoring rate changes, assessing adequacy, and performing due diligence analyses to ensure positive portfolio performance and sustainable growth.
  • Partner with senior underwriting leaders and teams to develop business acumen, deepen knowledge of various lines of business, and conduct ad hoc deep-dive analyses as needed to uncover key profit and loss drivers within an insurance portfolio.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed. This is primarily an individual contributor role, with the potential for direct management of junior analysts if the candidate demonstrates the necessary willingness and aptitude for leadership.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the Property & Casualty insurance business.
  • An Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) designation is required. Candidates with at least 5 completed CAS exams or ACAS candidates with less experience may be considered for a Senior Actuarial Analyst role. Individuals who have not yet attained the FCAS designation must be actively pursuing it.
  • Experience with Pricing in Commercial lines, specifically in Excess & Specialty, preferred.
  • Experience with Commercial GL, Cyber lines preferred.
  • Experience in modeling and/or quantitative research in any discipline, with demonstrated projects in machine learning and predictive modeling/econometrics preferred.
  • Strong technology skills including in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power BI) and programming/data manipulation/statistical analysis (SQL, R/Python, Multirate).

The target salary range for this position is $128,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
